MTU Maintenance has signed its first maintenance contracts for CFM International LEAP-1A engines in North Africa, securing agreements with regional airlines including Air Cairo as it expands its presence in the market.
The Air Cairo agreement covers 42 LEAP-1A engines powering 19 Airbus A320neo aircraft, MTU said.
The contracts mark MTU’s entry into a North African market it has targeted for several years. The region’s strategic location between Europe, the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa, along with rising tourism, passenger demand and fleet modernisation, is driving growth in narrow-body aircraft operations.
The support agreement will be delivered jointly by MTU Maintenance Hannover in Germany and MTU Maintenance Zhuhai in China. Zhuhai serves as the MTU network’s specialist for narrow-body aircraft engines and has extensive experience maintaining LEAP engines.
MTU said established relationships with airlines in North Africa helped underpin the expansion and strengthen its position as a maintenance provider in the region.
