GKN Aerospace has begun construction on a US$16 million expansion of its North Charlestown facility in Indiana, increasing capacity for aero-engine components and supporting growth across its engine components business, the company said.
The project will add about 57,000 ft² to the site, bringing its total footprint to nearly 97,000 ft².
The expanded facility will add manufacturing capabilities including turning, surface finishing and non-destructive testing, allowing more production processes to be carried out on site and helping to improve efficiency and reduce lead times, GKN Aerospace said.
The investment, announced earlier this year, will also provide space for additional employees and support a broader range of manufacturing activities as demand grows.
“This expansion gives us the space to grow our team, increase production capacity and broaden our capabilities,” Tomas Lindsta, senior vice president of OE Product Solutions at GKN Aerospace, said.
“By bringing more manufacturing processes in-house, we can further develop our employees’ skills, gain greater flexibility and respond more effectively to our customers’ evolving needs as our business continues to grow,” he said.
