Saab has signed a contract with Bulgaria’s air navigation services provider BULATSA to upgrade air traffic control operations at Sofia, Varna and Burgas airports, the Swedish defence and aerospace group said.
Saab will supply the latest version of its Integrated Air Traffic Control Suite (I-ATS), a scalable platform designed to give tower and approach controllers tools to manage air traffic safely and efficiently.
The contract includes an Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System (A-SMGCS) for Sofia Airport, an upgraded human-machine interface and support for requirements under the European Union’s Common Project One (CP1).
The upgrades are intended to strengthen and modernise BULATSA’s air traffic control capabilities at the three airports and support future operational requirements, Saab said.
BULATSA is responsible for the safe and efficient management of air traffic in Bulgarian-controlled airspace.
