VINCI Airports has announced a £500 million investment programme over the next five years to support the development of Edinburgh Airport, Scotland’s busiest airport, in the largest investment in its history.
The programme marks a new phase in the airport’s development and underlines the commitment of VINCI Airports and co-shareholder Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) to making the airport more efficient, connected and sustainable.
Since joining the VINCI Airports network in 2024, Edinburgh Airport has continued to grow. In 2025, it handled nearly 17 million passengers, up 7.5% from the previous year.
The five-year programme will transform the airport’s infrastructure to increase capacity, improve passenger flows and strengthen operational performance. Plans include new gates to support route growth, additional aircraft stands to accommodate more movements, an expanded check-in hall and departure lounge, and a 60% increase in the terminal footprint.
The investment will also include new and upgraded retail, food and beverage areas, as well as expanded facilities for international arrivals and baggage make-up and reclaim.
The programme is the first phase of a broader project aimed at ensuring Edinburgh Airport can meet demand efficiently and sustainably while continuing to support Scotland’s economy.
The planned expansion is expected to enable the development of new air routes and strengthen Scotland’s connectivity with Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia and other international markets.
The investment will also support the airport’s environmental objectives through upgraded infrastructure and the integration of low-carbon solutions aimed at reducing its carbon footprint.
