Boeing has won an order for the first four full-rate production MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters after the U.S. Air Force declared initial operating capability for the programme earlier this year, clearing the way for expanded deployment.
The award brings the total number of MH-139As under contract to 42, with Boeing having delivered 27 aircraft to date.
The milestone marks the start of full-rate production for the helicopter, which is designed to support the Air Force’s mission to protect the nation’s strategic missile fields and other critical assets.
“This milestone validates key readiness levels for Grey Wolf and supports the service’s fielding plans to secure vital national assets across the country’s strategic missile fields,” said Kathleen Jolivette, Vice President and General Manager, Vertical Lift Programs, for Boeing Defense, Space & Security.
The latest award is expected to add momentum to the Air Force’s planned fielding and modernisation efforts as Boeing scales production of the MH-139A for operational use.
