SITA has agreed to acquire Flightscape, CAE Inc.’s airline operations software business, in a move aimed at helping airlines improve operational decision-making and manage disruption more effectively.
Flightscape’s software helps airlines plan flights, manage crews, oversee operations, coordinate ground activities and deliver in-flight services. Its systems are used by more than 90 airlines to manage flight operations across their networks.
The acquisition comes as the aviation industry faces growing operational complexity. More than 10 billion passengers are expected to fly annually by 2050, while disruption continues to affect daily operations. Airlines and their industry partners often work with fragmented information, limiting their ability to coordinate responses.
SITA, which is owned by the air transport industry, connects aviation stakeholders through the exchange of operational information. Integrating Flightscape’s software will complement SITA’s existing portfolio by bringing more operational data into the systems airlines use to make decisions.
Work to connect the platforms will begin after the transaction closes.
The deal builds on SITA’s investment in airline operations technology. In 2021, the company acquired Safety Line, whose technology helps airlines reduce fuel consumption, followed earlier this year by Big Blue Analytics, which uses artificial intelligence to help airlines develop recovery plans in minutes.
Both technologies are designed to work alongside airlines’ existing systems. SITA plans to integrate them with Flightscape’s software in stages, working closely with customers.
The company said the acquisition would support further innovation for airlines and the wider aviation industry.
