Liebherr-Aerospace has signed an agreement with Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer to supply a new electromechanical rudder actuator for the Phenom 300EV business jet as part of an upgrade to its flight control system.
The actuator, which incorporates integrated control and power electronics, will become standard equipment on the aircraft. The system represents one of the first applications of an electromechanical actuator (EMA) for primary rudder control on a civil aircraft and the first to feature fully integrated electronics, Liebherr-Aerospace said.
The Phenom 300EV received certification from Brazil’s ANAC, the US Federal Aviation Administration and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency in 2026. Entry into service is scheduled for 2028.
The agreement expands Liebherr’s involvement in Embraer’s aircraft programmes.
The lightweight actuator features an integrated control and power module developed in-house by Liebherr. Development and production will be carried out by Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg in Germany, the group’s centre of excellence for flight controls, actuation systems, gears, gearboxes and landing gear, in cooperation with Liebherr-Elektronik in Lindau and Liebherr’s team at Embraer’s facilities in Brazil.
