Lufthansa Cargo has completed its acquisition of LUG aircargo handling GmbH (LUG) following receipt of all required antitrust approvals, making the cargo handling company a wholly owned subsidiary.
The agreement to acquire LUG from the Dettmer Group was signed on September 7, 2026. Lufthansa Cargo said the deal strengthens its handling infrastructure in Germany and supports its strategy for profitable growth and increased competitiveness.
LUG will continue to operate as a separate company under its own brand within Lufthansa Cargo. Existing customer contracts and relationships will remain unchanged, while the company will continue handling cargo for other airlines, an integral part of its business model.
Becoming part of Lufthansa Cargo will also provide LUG with additional growth opportunities, allowing it to build on its existing operations, develop its handling capabilities and pursue new business.
The additional capacity complements Lufthansa Cargo’s existing infrastructure investments, including its LCCevo modernisation programme in Frankfurt, which involves investment of around €600 million.
Lufthansa Cargo said the investments would strengthen its handling infrastructure and support the continued delivery of reliable, high-quality services to customers.
