Qantas back in the air

Qantas planes were back in the air by Monday afternoon, after Fair Work Australia ruled to terminate the industrial dispute that has crippled Australian air travel. The decision will force Qantas and three unions to talk for at least 21 days. If those talks fail Fair Work Australia can then settle the dispute. Qantas grounded its entire domestic and international fleet on Saturday. It came in the middle of a bitter dispute with staff and stranded thousands of passengers in Australia and around the world. In its ruling Fair Work Australia said Qantas’ decision to move to lock out its staff threatened to cause significant harm to aviation and tourism whereby industrial actions by ALAEA, TWU and AIPA was “unlikely” to have threatened significant harm to tourism and aviation.
