Airbus delivered 735 commercial aircraft to 87 customers around the world in 2023, demonstrating strong performance despite a complex operating environment. The Commercial Aircraft business registered 2,319 gross new orders (2,094 net). As a result, its 2023 year end backlog stood at 8,598 aircraft.

In 2023, Airbus’ Commercial Aircraft business had a successful year, with sales and deliveries surpassing its target. Guillaume Faury, Airbus CEO, expressed, “2023 was a landmark year for Airbus’ Commercial Aircraft business with exceptional sales and deliveries on the upper end of our target.” He attributed this achievement to factors such as the improved flexibility of its global industrial system and strong demand from airlines for the company’s modern and fuel-efficient aircraft.

Christian Scherer, the newly appointed CEO of Airbus’ Commercial Aircraft, noted the unexpected early recovery of the aviation industry in 2023. He said, “We originally anticipated aviation to recover sometime in the 2023-2025 time frame, but what we saw in 2023 was, alongside the single-aisle market, wide-body return much sooner than expected, and with vigour.” He highlighted the record sales of A320s and A350s and the addition of seven new customers for the A350-1000. Scherer emphasised the importance of these sales in paving the way for a lower-carbon future, with 735 more fuel-efficient Airbus jets in operation. He concluded by mentioning their commitment to investing in innovative and sustainable solutions in the future.
