The Uruguayan Air Force (FAU) and the Uruguayan Ministry of National Defence (MDN) have converted options for five A-29 Super Tucano aircraft into firm orders. This agreement follows a commitment made in August 2024, when the FAU announced a firm order with Embraer for one aircraft alongside options, which have now been exercised. The agreement also includes mission equipment, integrated logistics services, and a flight simulator.

This contract forms part of a fleet renewal programme aimed at enhancing the FAU’s operational capabilities. “The acquisition of the A-29 Super Tucano and the flight simulator will provide Uruguay with airspace defence capabilities and is part of the commitment assumed by the government to renew the material and equipment of our Armed Forces to fulfil their assigned missions,” stated Uruguayan Minister of National Defence, Armando Castaingdebat.

With Uruguay joining the roster of operators and Portugal’s recent acquisition of the first A-29 in NATO configuration (A-29N), the A-29 Super Tucano now boasts 20 operators worldwide, with over 290 orders.
