Edelweiss, Switzerland’s holiday airline, is set to expand its short-haul fleet to 16 aircraft by taking over two jets from its sister company, Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS). An Airbus A320 (HB-JLQ) will join the fleet in mid-October 2025, followed by the first Airbus A320neo (HB-JDB) in April 2026, marking the introduction of this modern aircraft type to Edelweiss’s operations.

The fleet expansion strengthens Edelweiss’s position at its Zurich hub and represents a major step in modernising its short-haul operations. The Airbus A320neo is the successor to the Airbus A320 and offers significant operational and environmental advantages. With at least 15% lower fuel consumption than its predecessor, the A320neo also produces fewer emissions and operates with considerably reduced noise levels.

Bernd Bauer, CEO of Edelweiss, highlighted the strategic benefits of the expansion: “I am delighted that Edelweiss is continuing to develop on short- and medium-haul routes and that we are taking an important step towards modernising our short-haul fleet with the first Airbus A320neo. The aircraft combines state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly technology with greater comfort for our guests.”

The introduction of the A320neo not only improves Edelweiss’s environmental performance but also provides the airline with greater flexibility in route planning. Its enhanced fuel efficiency and extended range create opportunities for deploying the aircraft on longer short- and medium-haul routes, while offering passengers a quieter and more comfortable travel experience.
