Boeing will produce four additional MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters and provide associated sustainment support for the U.S. Air Force, marking its second production contract for the aircraft within five months. Following a US$173 million award for eight helicopters in September, this latest contract increases the total value of the award to more than US$262 million.
“The quick succession of contracts demonstrates that the US Air Force is fully committed to bringing the MH-139A capability to the warfighter as quickly as possible,” said Azeem Khan, Director of the MH-139 programme. “Our team is dedicated to delivering and sustaining these aircraft, driven by a commitment to excellence, with safety and quality as our top priorities.”
The new order brings the total number of MH-139A aircraft under contract to 38. To date, 21 Grey Wolf helicopters have been delivered to the Air Force, including 12 from the low-rate initial production contract awarded in 2023.
Based on the proven Leonardo Helicopters AW139 platform and fitted with customised military equipment by Boeing, the MH-139A is a multi-mission helicopter designed for patrol, search and rescue, and troop and cargo transport. The programme supports more than a thousand jobs in the Philadelphia region and across the United States through Boeing and Leonardo’s combined efforts.
