Saab has signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to supply 16 Gripen E fighter aircraft to Ukraine. Valued at approximately SEK24.6 billion, the order will be booked in the third quarter of 2026, with deliveries scheduled for 2029-2030.
The contract also covers spare parts, associated equipment and support items. Designed to counter advanced threats in demanding operational environments, the Gripen E can operate from short runways, temporary airstrips and roads, enabling dispersed operations and high availability. Its software-based architecture supports continuous upgrades to meet evolving operational requirements, while low maintenance needs and rapid turnaround times provide a cost-effective fighter capability that is straightforward to operate and maintain.
