BOC Aviation has agreed to purchase 12 Airbus A320neo aircraft from Airbus for long-term lease to existing customer Avianca, adding to its portfolio of next-generation narrow-body jets as the Colombian airline expands its fleet and network.
The aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2029 and will all be powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines. The deal will support Avianca’s longer-term fleet strategy while giving BOC Aviation additional exposure to the fuel-efficient A320neo family.
BOC Aviation Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Steven Townend said the transaction builds on the lessor’s relationship with Avianca and highlights the growing importance of pre-delivery payment financing as aircraft production increases.
The lessor said its access to significant liquidity allows it to support airline customers through transactions involving aircraft ordered several years ahead of delivery. The agreement also adds to BOC Aviation’s fleet of latest-generation A320neo aircraft.
The transaction comes as airlines in Latin America continue to invest in newer, more fuel-efficient aircraft to support passenger growth while managing operating costs and fleet renewal. The A320neo family, with its improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions compared with previous-generation aircraft, remains a key part of many carriers’ fleet plans.
For BOC Aviation, the Avianca agreement strengthens an existing customer relationship while expanding its forward order book of A320neo-family aircraft. The 2029 deliveries will also provide Avianca with additional capacity to support its growth plans over the coming decade.
