GE Aerospace will invest US$225 million to modernise its research centre in Niskayuna, New York, as the aerospace company expands its research capabilities in areas including artificial intelligence, autonomy, robotics and advanced propulsion.
The state of New York has committed US$8.4 million in tax credits through Empire State Development, while the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority will provide additional local incentives worth US$5.3 million.
The GE Aerospace Research Center has operated as a technology development hub for more than 75 years. The latest investment will upgrade its infrastructure and research equipment, with about two-thirds of the funding allocated to infrastructure improvements and the remainder to advanced research technology.
The project is expected to create 75 full-time jobs over five years, including research, engineering and skilled trade positions, as well as temporary construction employment.
GE Aerospace said the upgraded centre will support advanced technology programmes with academic and federal partners, including projects backed by the U.S. Department of Energy and Department of War.
Site improvement work is expected to begin immediately, with research operations continuing during construction with minimal disruption, the company said.
