GKN Aerospace and Saab have signed a long-term collaboration agreement covering the propulsion system for the Gripen E/F fighter aircraft, expanding GKN Aerospace’s role in the programme.
Under the agreement, GKN Aerospace will become Saab’s preferred provider of engine services for the Gripen E/F. The partnership will cover propulsion support, capability development and contributions to Saab’s international Gripen campaigns.
The agreement sets out how the companies will work together on engine and propulsion-related activities within the Gripen E/F programme. It aims to strengthen the aircraft’s offering to Sweden and international customers.
GKN Aerospace already provides engine maintenance and technical support for the Gripen fleet in Sweden. The new agreement extends cooperation to long-term capability development and expanded customer support for current and future Gripen operators.
The companies will also continue discussions on strengthening Sweden’s long-term capabilities relating to the Gripen E/F engine.
GKN Aerospace holds the type certificate for the RM12 engine, which powers the Gripen C/D fleet.
