The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has certified Boeing’s 737 MAX 10 following an extensive review, clearing the way for production and deliveries to domestic and international airlines, the agency said.

The aircraft incorporates new safety features and is designed to reduce fuel consumption.

More than 30 customers worldwide have ordered the 737 MAX 10, with total orders reaching 1,555 aircraft, accounting for more than 30% of the 737 MAX programme’s current order book, according to Boeing.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the approval followed extensive safety reviews, including thousands of hours of test flights, describing it as a boost for US manufacturing and the country’s aviation industry.

FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said the decision followed a thorough assessment of the aircraft’s design and safety requirements, adding that the agency would continue to hold Boeing to high safety standards as production begins.

The FAA issued an amended type certificate confirming that the aircraft meets applicable design and safety requirements, along with an updated Production Limitation Record authorising production.

Before granting approval, the agency required Boeing to incorporate safety improvements addressing requirements under the Aircraft Certification, Safety, and Accountability Act and recommendations from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

The changes include updates to the flight-control system and an enhanced angle-of-attack sensor, which measures the aircraft’s pitch relative to the airflow. Boeing 737 MAX 10 © Boeing
