MTU Maintenance has broken ground on an extension of more than 10,000 m² at its facility in Hannover, Germany, in an investment of more than €100 million to expand engine maintenance and repair capacity.
The project will add 7,700 m² of production space and 2,200 m² of office space, bringing the site’s total floor area to more than 110,000 m². The extension is expected to increase capacity by more than 20% and create 200 jobs. It is scheduled to become operational in late 2028.
The investment is partly supported by Wirtschaftsförderungs-Gesellschaft Langenhagen Flughafen mbH, an economic development company.
The additional capacity will primarily support demand for maintenance visits involving wide-body engines and module repairs, including the GEnx and, in future, the GE9X turbine centre frames. Space freed up in the existing facility will also be optimised for key engine repairs.
“MTU Maintenance Hannover was the birthplace of MRO for MTU and it has continually grown and developed over the past decades,” said Jaap Beijer, Executive Vice-President of MRO operations at MTU and managing director of the Hannover site.
