MTU Aero Engines reports strong 2015 Paris Air Show results

This year’s International Paris Air Show was a major success for MTU Aero Engines: Germany’s leading engine manufacturer has announced orders valued at more than €800m, with the PW1000G family of geared turbofan engines doing particularly well. The total volume of orders for engines in which MTU has a stake also includes propulsion systems for long-haul airplanes. For MTU, the geared turbofan (GTF) engines for the Airbus A320neo family ranked top of the list in terms of orders received at the trade show. The largest order came in from carrier Turkish Airlines; taken together with the deals signed by SMBC Aviation Capital, a leading global aircraft leasing company, Korean Air and the China Aircraft Leasing Company (CALC), a total of 170 aircraft powered by PurePower PW1100G engines were purchased for the customers’ A320neo fleets. Contract wins were scored also for the PW1900G, the geared turbofan version for the new generation of Embraer’s E-Jets. The South-American aircraft manufacturer took in firm orders for 25 aircraft. The customer in this case is U.S. leasing company Aircastle. MTU also benefits from business with latest-generation widebody aircraft: Russia’s Volga-Dnepr Group has selected the GEnx engine for 20 Boeing 747-8F freighters. Other new orders were received for the GE9X for the Boeing 777X. Customer Qatar Airways will add another ten of the Boeing long-range aircraft to its fleet and has placed a firm order for the GE9X engines to power them. Demand for the engine powering the current A320 family of aircraft, IAE’s V2500, continued to be strong at the Paris Air Show. Orders for this propulsion system were placed by Singapore-based aircraft leasing company BOC Aviation, financial holding company CIT Group Inc. and Hungarian carrier Wizz Air.
