Air Berlin is expanding its route network and will be flying to Israel for the first time this summer. From 7th July 2009 onwards, Air Berlin passengers will have a choice of two non-stop flights a week from Berlin to Tel Aviv. There will also be feeder flights from various German cities.
In April, Cathay Pacific and Dragonair reported an increase in traffic of 8.8% compared to the same month in 2008 – while the load factor rose by 3.2 percentage points to 82.6%. Capacity for the month rose by 1.1%.
In April 2009, Air France/KLM recorded a 3.4% reduction in capacity with a 2.8% decline in traffic. The load factor stood at the high level of 80.5%, up 0.6 points. The group carried 6.2 million passengers (-3.7%).
SAS Group’s traffic decreased by 18.4 % during April and capacity was down 20.6% vs. 2008. Total passenger load factor in April was up by 2.0 p.u. to 72.5%, positively affected by capacity adjustments and Easter effect.
In April 2009, BA’s passenger capacity was 2.4% below April 2008, traffic rose by 0.9%. This resulted in a passenger load factor increase of 2.6 points versus last year, to 78.1%.
Finnair’s scheduled passenger traffic declined by 5.7% from the previous year. At the same time, capacity was cut by 9.4% which improved passenger load factor by 2.8 percentage points to 71.2%.
Delta Air Lines reported traffic results for April 2009. System traffic in April, including both Delta and Northwest operations, decreased 7.7% compared to April 2008 on a 7.1% decrease in capacity. The load factor declined 0.5 points to 81.4%.
Frontier Airlines Holdings, announced preliminary traffic results for April 2009 for both Frontier’s mainline operation and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Lynx Aviation. Traffic decreased 17.5% and capacity was down 16.1% from the same period last year. This resulted in a load factor of 80.1%, a decrease of 1.4 points over April 2008.
Air Canada mainline reported a load factor of 82.4% in April 2009 compared to 83.5% in April 2008; a decrease of 1.1 percentage points. Traffic decreased 3.2% in April 2009, on a capacity decrease of 1.9%. Jazz, from which Air Canada purchases regional capacity, reported a load factor of 68.1%, a decrease of 6.8 percentage
Southwest Airlines announced that traffic increased 4.1% in April 2008. Capacity decreased 1.9% from the April 2008 level and the load factor for the month was 77.0% compared to 72.6% for the same period last year.
