WestJet has announced April 2018 traffic results with a load factor of 86.0%, an increase of 1.2 points year over year. Traffic, increased 2.8% year over year, while capacity grew 1.4% over the same period. WestJet welcomed an additional 100,000 guests in April, a year-over-year increase of 5.1%.
Norwegian has reported that total traffic increased by 44% in April 2018, while the capacity increased by 51%. The load factor was 83%, down 3.6 points compared to the same period in 2017. The high capacity growth is primarily due to the company’s long-haul routes, which has more than doubled since April last year.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA), which represents some 280 airlines comprising 83% of global air traffic, has released data for global air freight markets revealing that demand, measured in freight tonne kilometers (FTKs), was up 1.7% in March 2018, compared to March 2017. Delta Air Lines has reported operating performance for April 2018. The company carried 15.9 million passengers across its broad global network, a record for the month of April. Total traffic was up 3.7% compared to April 2017, while total capacity increased 4.0%. The load factor for the month was down 0.2 points to 85.2%.
With consolidated earnings after taxes at around €155m, Munich Airport achieved the best result in its history in 2017. Finnair’s March capacity increased 18.2% year-on-year, while traffic grew by 23.4% compared to the previous year, driven by the increased demand for long-haul leisure travel. The Passenger load factor increased by 3.5%-points to 84.5%.

Ryanair has released that March traffic increased 6% to 10.0m customers compared to March 2017 and the load factor for the month was up 1.0 point to 95%. Rolling annual traffic to March grew 9% to 130.3m customers.
JetBlue Airways has reported its preliminary traffic results for February 2018. Traffic in February increased 6.8% from February 2017, on a capacity increase of 6.8%. Load factor for February 2018 was 82.6%, unchanged from February 2017.
