The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released May’s global passenger traffic results, revealing that compared to May 2016, revenue passenger kilometers (RPKs) was up 7.6%, though down from 10.9% growth in April. Capacity was up 6.1% and load factor was up 1.2% to 80.1%, a record high for the month of May. For the
International Airlines Group traffic in June increased by 3.9% versus June 2016, while Group capacity rose by 3.5%. The load factor for the month improved 0.3 points to 84.3%.
Norwegian reached a new milestone in June, flying more than three million passengers in one single month. The total traffic growth increased by 19% in June, driven by 20% capacity growth compared to June 2016. The load factor for June was 89.7%, compared to 90.2% the previous year.
Ryanair reported that June traffic grew 12% to 11.8m customers, compared to June 2016. The load factor rose 2% points to 96% and rolling annual traffic to June grew 13% to 123.8m customers, compared to the same period in 2016.
JetBlue Airways Corporation has reported its preliminary traffic results for May 2017. Traffic in May increased 3.8% from May 2016, on a capacity increase of 3.7%. The load factor for the month was up 0.1 points to 84.7% when compared to the previous year.
Lufthansa Group has reported that traffic increased 16.2% for May 2017, while capacity increased 12.2% over the previous year. The load factor improved 2.7 points to 79%, compared to May 2016.
American Airlines Group’s total traffic for May was up 2.6% versus May 2016, while total capacity was improved 2.3% versus May 2016. Total passenger load factor was 82.1%, up 0.2 points versus May 2016.
International Airlines Group traffic in May increased by 1.8% versus May 2016, while Group capacity rose by 0.9%. Group load factor increased 0.7 points to 80.5%.
Alaska Air Group has reported May and year-to-date operational results on a consolidated basis, for its mainline operations operated by subsidiaries Alaska Airlines, Virgin America and for its regional flying operated by subsidiary Horizon Air and third-party regional carriers SkyWest Airlines and Peninsula Airlines (Regional).
