The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced global passenger traffic results for July showing an acceleration in demand growth over the previous five months. Total revenue passenger kilometers (RPKs) rose 5.9%, compared to the same month last year, with all regions reporting growth. Monthly capacity increased by 6.0%, and load factor was 83.7% just 0.1
In August, Finnair’s overall capacity grew by 7.5% and traffic grew by 3.5%year‐on‐year. The passenger load factor declined by 3.2 points year-on-year to 83.1%.
Southwest Airlines reported its August traffic statistics. Traffic increased 3.6% compared to the previous year while capacity increased 4.6% compared with August 2015. The load factor was 84.6% as compared with 85.4% in August 2015.
Hawaiian Airlines has announced its system-wide traffic statistics for the month of August. Traffic increased 7.1% compared to August 2015, while capacity increased 5.6%. The load factor for August increased 1.2 points, to 84.4%.
Ryanair reported that traffic for August grew 11% compared to the same period in 2015. The load factor rose 1.0 point to 96%.
Norwegian carried almost 2.9 million passengers in August, an increase of 12% compared to the same month in the previous year. The load factor was unchanged at 90%. Traffic for the month as well as capacity, invreased 17% compared to the same period in 2015.
Alaska Air Group reported August and year-to-date operational results on a consolidated basis, for its mainline operations operated by subsidiary Alaska Airlines and for its regional flying operated by subsidiary Horizon Air and third-party regional carriers, SkyWest Airlines and PenAir (Regional). On a combined basis, Air Group reported a 9.0% increase in traffic on a
WestJet reported July 2016 traffic results with a load factor of 85.2% an increase of 2.4 points year over year. Traffic increased 13.9% year over year and capacity grew 10.7% over the same period.
United Airlines (UAL) reported July 2016 operational results. UAL’s July 2016 consolidated traffic increased 1.2% and consolidated capacity increased 0.7% versus July 2015. UAL’s July 2016 consolidated load factor increased 0.5 points compared to July 2015 to 87.5%
In July, Finnair’s overall capacity grew by 9.2% and traffic grew by 8.6% year‐on‐year. Despite the strong growth, the passenger load factor was close to last year’s level at 88.7% compared to 89.1% in July 2015.
