Southwest Airlines reported that May 2016 traffic increased by 6.4% compared to May 2015 while capacity inreased 4.6%. The May 2016 load factor was a record for the month of May at 85.8%, compared with 84.4% in May 2015.
In May, Finnair’s overall capacity grew by 12.5% and traffic grew by 9.4% year‐on‐year. The passenger load factor declined by 2.1%-points to 72.9% compared to the previous year.
During May 2016 Volaris increased total capacity by 23.8% year over year, in response to strong demand in its domestic and international markets. Traffic in May increased 27.1% year over year and the load factor was up 2.3 points to 86%, compared to the previous year.
On a combined basis, Alaska Air Group reported an 11.6% increase in traffic on an 11.3% increase in capacity compared to May 2015. Load factor increased 0.2 points to 84.7%. These statistics include flights operated by Alaska, Horizon, and those under third-party capacity purchase agreements.
Delta Air Lines reported that May consolidated traffic was up 3.3% compared to May 2015, while consolidated capacity was up 3.5%. Consolidated load factor for the month was slightly down by 0.1 points to 85.3%, compared to the previous year.
Alaska Air Group reported April operational results on a consolidated basis for Alaska Airlines and subsidiary Horizon Air and third-party regional carriers, SkyWest Airlines and PenAir. On a combined basis, Air Group reported an 11.1% increase in traffic on a 10.4% increase in capacity compared to April 2015. Load factor increased 0.5 points to 84.1%.
International Airlines Group reported that traffic in April increased by 10.9% versus April 2015 while Group capacity rose by 10.7%. Group load factor for April was up 0.2 points to 78.6%
For the month of April 2016, Copa Holdings’ system-wide passenger traffic increased 4.1% year over year, while capacity decreased 0.4%. As a result, system load factor for April 2016 was 76.1%, a 3.3 point increase when compared to April 2015.
UAL’s April 2016 consolidated traffic decreased 1.9% and consolidated capacity decreased 0.9% versus April 2015. UAL’s April 2016 consolidated load factor decreased 0.9 points to 80.5% compared to April 2015.
In April, Finnair’s overall capacity grew by 3.4%, while traffic declined by 0.1% year‐on‐year. The passenger load factor declined by 2.4% points to 75.1%.
