Alaska Air Group reported January operational results. On a combined basis, Alaska Air Group reported a 6.9% increase in traffic on a 7.6% increase in capacity compared to January 2016. Load factor decreased 0.5 points to 78.1%. These statistics include flights operated by Alaska, Virgin America, Horizon, and those under third-party capacity purchase agreements.

Hawaiian Airlines reported that traffic in January 2017 increased 9.5% and capacity increased 5.8% compared to the previous year. The load factor for January was up 2.8 points to 83.9%.

Southwest Airlines’ traffic for January 2017 increased 4.6%, while capacity for January was up 6.2%, compared to January 2016. The load factor was 76.3% compared with 77.5% in January 2016.

SAS reported scheduled traffic increased 20.5% in January and capacity was up 11.3% compared to January 2016. The load factor for the month improved by 5.3 points to 69.0%. SAS carried 1.9 million scheduled passengers in January, up 9.8% vs. last year.

In January, Finnair’s overall capacity measured in Available Seat Kilometres grew by 0.1%, and traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres grew by 3.4% year‐on‐year. Overall, the passenger load factor increased by 2.6 points to 80.5%.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced full-year global passenger traffic results for 2016 showing demand rose 6.3% compared to 2015 (or 6.0% if adjusted for the leap year). Vancouver International Airport (YVR) released its final passenger numbers from 2016, demonstrating significant growth across all major sectors. YVR welcomed a record total of over 22.3 million passengers—an increase of 9.7% over 2015—putting the airport on track to meet the goal of 25 million passengers by 2020. For January 2017 Delta reported system traffic was up 0.4% compared to the same period in 2016 and system capacity increased 0.6%. System load factor for January was 81.2%, down 0.1 points compared to January 2016.

In 2016, Frankfurt Airport (FRA) served a total of 60,792,308 passengers, thus surpassing the 60 million passenger mark once again and remaining almost at the previous year’s level (down 0.4%). Following a slowdown in the summer period of 2016 caused by geopolitical factors, passenger traffic clearly picked up again towards the end of the year.
