The Finnair Group's Finnair Aircraft Finance Oy has sold six Boeing MD-80 aircraft and three spare engines it owns to Allegiant Travel Company's low-cost carrier Allegiant Air, headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada U.S.A.
The aircraft are currently flying in the colours of the Swedish airline FlyNordic. In July last year, Finnair sold FlyNordic to the low-cost carrier Norwegian Air Shuttle. The MD-80 aircraft were sold to Allegiant Air complete with lease agreements, and the aircraft will continue to be operated by FlyNordic until the end of their leasing periods in 2008 and 2009, when they will transfer to the use of Allegiant Air.
Last year Finnair recognised excess depreciation amounting three million euros for the aircraft now sold, so the aircraft sales are not expected to have any significant impact on Finnair's result.
