Lufthansa is to power a new fleet of 20 firm Airbus A321s plus options with the V2500 SelectOne engine. The value of this business to IAE is up to $850 million if all options are exercised and deliveries are due to commence in 2009.
Choosing the latest V2500 SelectOne configuration will enable Lufthansa to drive down its operating costs. This is achieved through various engineering developments that have resulted in lower fuel burn and greater time on wing, leading to a reduction in the total cost of ownership.
IAE is a multinational aero engine consortium whose shareholders comprise of Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines.
