Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance & Engineering Company (GAMECO), a joint venture MRO owned by China Southern Airlines Co., South China International Aircraft Engineering Co. and Hutchison Aircraft Maintenance Investment, reported the groundbreaking for the new GAMECO Phase II Hangar at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. Norbert Marx, General Manager of GAMECO said, “Today's groundbreaking for GAMECO's Phase II, eight bay hangar plus workshops is a significant milestone in developing GAMECO's heavy maintenance operations. This will allow us to support the rapid growth of China Southern Airlines and make bigger steps into third party business at the same time. It will also provide more than 1,500 high profile jobs in the local region.”
The total investment for the new Phase II Hangar project is estimated to be ¥ 580M RMB ($90M) and is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2012 with full operation in the first half of 2013.
