Lufthansa Technik AG handed over the first of four Global 5000 aircraft to the Special Air Mission Wing of the German Federal Ministry of Defence (BMVg). Over a period of 24 months, the new aircraft was constructed by the Canadian aircraft manufacturer, Bombardier, and adapted to the special requirements of a governmental transport aircraft. The Global 5000 aircraft was equipped with military auxiliary equipment like communication systems and painted in the official livery of German government aircraft. Beginning in September 2011 the German Armed Forces Test and Evaluation Centre (WTD 61) commenced an intensive documentation and testing program to prepare the aircraft for service.
This is the first of four medium-range Global 5000 aircraft that Lufthansa Technik will deliver to the Federal Ministry of Defence by the end of 2011 as part of the programme to renew the fleet of the Special Air Mission Wing.
