MTU Aero Engines has wrapped up a successful appearance at this year’s Dubai Airshow and announced the receipt of a number of orders on the final day of the event. “The value of the deals concluded amounts to over €400m in business for us. These new contracts are again proof that the geared turbofan is successfully establishing itself in the market as the propulsion concept of the future,” comments MTU CEO Egon Behle. The PurePower PW1000 geared-turbofan (GTF) engine family for the Airbus A320neo and Bombardier’s CSeries was once again one of the highlights at the show. Aircraft leasing company ALAFCO and Qatar Airways placed firm orders for a total of 200 PW1100G-JM engines for their A320neo aircraft. Atlasjet ordered ten CSeries aircraft powered by 20 PW1000Gs. Moreover, Thai Airways has decided to add eleven standard A320-family aircraft equipped with the V2500 to its fleet.
The German engine manufacturer has considerable work shares in the PW1000G-family and the V2500-family engines. MTU contributes key components to the GTF, as for example the high-speed low-pressure turbine, and also takes on final assembly of 30% of all PW1100G-JM engines built. Under the V2500 program, the Munich-based company is likewise responsible for the low-pressure turbine.
