Sikorsky to lay off 3% of US workforce

Sikorsky Aircraft says it will lay off 3% of its workforce because of the weak economy and anticipated cuts in the Defense Department budget. Sikorsky, a subsidiary of United Technologies, announced already in September that it intends to trim its worldwide workforce of 18,000 by about 540 jobs to remain competitive.
