Norwegian (NAS) has signed an agreement with both Airbus and Boeing for delivery of a total of 222 new aircraft. The order includes 122 aircraft from Boeing; 100 of the new Boeing 737 MAX8, with purchase rights for an additional 100 and 22 Next-Generation 737-800s. The aircraft will be powered by LEAP-1B-engines for the Boeing 737 MAX and CFM56-7BE-engines for the NG 737-800s. The total engine order is valued at approximately $2.9bn at list price. Norwegian will be the European launch customer for Boeing’s new aircraft.
The Airbus order, which is Norwegian’s first aircraft purchase from Airbus, includes 100 Airbus A320neo with purchase rights for an additional 50. The total agreement is the largest ever in European aviation history and has a contract value at list prices of NOK 127bn. Deliveries of the new aircraft will start in 2016.
