British Airways chooses Crane LGCIU for A320 retrofit program

British Airways has chosen to upgrade its A320 fleet with the new Crane Enhanced Landing Gear Control Interface Unit (LGCIU). Crane’s LGCIU has been the standard LGCIU on Airbus A320 Series production aircraft since October 2010. The LGCIU’s function on the aircraft is to sense the position of landing gear and landing gear doors, flap disconnect status, and cargo door position, and to provide system health status to the Central Fault Display System (CFDS). “Crane’s LGCIU offers significant enhancements over the legacy LGCIU, most notably improved reliability, up to 72,000 MTBUR, leading to better operational performance and reduced maintenance costs,” said Tim King, Director of Aftermarket Sales for Crane Aerospace & Electronics. “The new unit is also lower weight and provides an improvement in the system fault isolation capability to increase dispatch reliability for British Airways.”
