United announces second-quarter 2012 profit

United Continental Holdings reported second-quarter 2012 net income of $545m, excluding $206m of net special charges. Including special charges, UAL reported second-quarter 2012 net income of $339m. For the second quarter of 2012, total revenue was $9.9bn, an increase of 2.4% year-over-year excluding special items. Including special items in 2011, second-quarter total revenue increased 1.3% year-over-year. Second-quarter consolidated passenger revenue rose 2.3% to $8.8bn, compared to the same period in 2011.
