Lufthansa Technik Airmotive Ireland to wind up Dublin operation

Lufthansa Technik AG is to close its jet engine overhaul facility at Rathcole, Co. Dublin, Lufthansa Technik Airmotive Ireland (LTAI). On December 20, LTAI served notice of termination of employment on about 400 staff at the plant. On November 15th, LTAI had announced the start of a 30-day process to consider closing the company, subject to consultation with all relevant parties. This followed an extensive review of operations at LTAI, in the context of declining revenues and shrinking international market opportunities. An offer from an outside party to take over the facility did not lead to any acceptable solution. Negotiations with the three trade unions and employee representatives failed to reach agreement on severance terms.
