COOPESA to build new 6-bay hangar at Juan Santamaría Airport in San José, Costa Rica

A new 6 bay, 158,122 ft² hangar for COOPESA will start to rise soon after groundbreaking works began on March 18th, 2015 at Juan Santamaría Airport in San José, Costa Rica. The new facility is set to replace the existing one which will need to make room for future airport expansion at SJO and will be located across the runway near the west end of the airport property. The hangar will also be able to accommodate up to 6 narrow body aircraft and is expected to be operational during the first quarter of 2017. It will be devoted to the same models currently handled by COOPESA (B757; A320 FAM; B737NG, and E190). Plans are already underway for a second hangar after completion of the first one that should add capacity by 6 bays.
