News comes from le Bourget, Paris that Aercap, who only recently took over US leasing giant ILFC, have confirmed an order initiated by ILFC for 100 Boeing 737 Max planes worth an estimated US$10.7bn at list price. “This is something we have been working on for a long time,” said AerCap chief executive Aengus Kelly, “It is as important a transaction for AerCap as it is for Boeing.” Kelly had only said last week that this year's air show was likely to see fewer orders than in the past, making it an ideal time to negotiate good deals. “We know there is demand out there for this aircraft type,” Kelly said. “We are very comfortable with the supply we see coming down the pipe from the manufacturers. We will see what happens with rate 60.”
According to the Boeing website, “The 737 MAX incorporates the latest technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines, Advanced Technology winglets and other improvements to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market. The 737 MAX will be 14 percent more fuel-efficient than today's most efficient Next-Generation 737s – and 20 percent better than the original Next-Generation 737s when they first entered service.”
AerCap itself is currently a global leader in aircraft leasing, holding 1,800 aircraft which are either owned, managed, or under contract to purchase. AerCap has a client base of over 200 customers in over 90 countries with comprehensive fleet solutions, also providing part-out and engine leasing services via its subsidiary, AeroTurbine.
