Pratt & Whitney’s Singapore-based blades and vanes repair specialist, Turbine Coating Services, has enhanced Electron Beam Physical Vapor Deposition (EBPVD) capabilities for its operations in Singapore. The technology allows for the application of thermal barrier ceramic coatings on engine components to protect surfaces against corrosive environments, while increasing the length of time between repairs for these components. The improved EBPVD capability involves high-end ceramic coating equipment with advanced cutting-edge thermal barrier ceramic coating technologies, and will be capable of applying coatings for existing engines and the new Geared Turbofan engines. It offers faster coating cycles, almost doubling the capacity of the current machine, while maintaining quality; and increasing present productivity and capacity for coating high pressure turbine blades and vanes.
