airberlin posts 2nd quarter loss of €89.1m

airberlin’s net result in the second quarter decreased to €-89.1m (Q2 2015:€-37.5m) and to €-271.5m (HY 2015: €-247.6m) in the first half-year. Operating earnings (EBIT) decreased in the second quarter to €-62.7m (Q2 2015: -15.9 million euros), and compared to the first half of the year, declined by 34 per cent to €-234.9m (HY 2015: €-175.8m). The cash and cash equivalents balance as at June 30, 2016 increased to €398.2m (30 June 2015: €219.1m). Revenue per available seat kilometre (RASK) decreased in the second quarter of 2016 by 6%, in the half-year, RASK dropped by 3.4%. airberlin continued to improve its ancillary revenues with a 27% rise from €5.85 (Q2 2015) to €7.42 per passenger. Compared to the same half-year period last year, ancillary revenues increased by 28% from €6.38 to €8.14 per passenger.
