Less than one year after its purchase of four new A321 aircraft, WOW air, Iceland’s only ultra-low cost airline, announced that it will add seven new Airbus aircraft to its rapidly-growing fleet by the end of 2018, bringing the total fleet to 24. The airline will operate an all-Airbus fleet of 17 aircraft throughout its 32 international routes across Europe and North America by mid-2017. These planes will make their way onto the Canadian routes, where they will fly from Montreal and Toronto to Iceland and onward to 23 European destinations. The additional seven new aircraft will be delivered over the subsequent 18 months. Among the additions will be four brand new A330-900neo widebody aircraft on a 12-year lease from CIT Aerospace International. The newest member of the Airbus widebody family, the A330-900neo includes new generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and aerodynamic enhancements that, in combination, offer a 14% reduction in fuel consumption per seat, making it the most cost-effective, medium-range widebody aircraft on the market.
