ExpressJet’s Delta Connection flights to end

ExpressJet is to close down its Atlanta, Georgia operations, which will likely include its CRJ maintenance facility. The regional carrier is also headquartered and has its OCC at Atlanta Airport as well. This will mean the end of flights for Delta Connection.
As a consequence, there will be a number of changes at ExpressJet, including:
Securing a new, five-year extension of its United Airlines ERJ145 contract, effective January 1, 2018 through to December 31, 2022. This will provide long-term stability to its model and provides ExpressJet pilots with continued access to United’s Career Pathway Program.
ExpressJet and Delta Air Lines mutually agreeing to initiate the wind-down of its remaining dual-class flying agreement under the Delta Connection brand, which will allow ExpressJet opportunities to place aircraft with other partners. The agreement includes 28 CRJ900s and 33 CRJ700s. The aircraft financed by Delta, including all CRJ900s, will be returned to Delta starting in the fourth quarter of 2017, while ExpressJet will be aiming to transition other aircraft previously operated under its Delta agreement to other major partners throughout 2018.
Securing an agreement with American Airlines to transition eight additional CRJ700s to its American Eagle operation. This transition should happen during the second quarter of 2018.
Earlier in 2017, Endeavor Air announced that it would take over most CRJ-200 flights in Atlanta for Delta Connection, which many saw as the beginning of the end for ExpressJet and Delta. ExpressJet operates a fleet of 228 jet aircraft for United Express, American Eagle, and Delta Connection. The airline operates 61 of the larger CRJ-700 and CRJ-900 aircraft for Delta Connection.
