BARIG (Board of Airline Representatives in Germany) continues to foster dialogue and extensive collaboration with system partners in the aviation sector, aiming to collectively tackle industry challenges. The association of airlines operating in Germany has announced Düsseldorf Airport as its latest partner, expanding BARIG’s network beyond Munich and Stuttgart.
Michael Hoppe, BARIG Chairman and Executive Director, emphasised the crucial role of efficient infrastructure and processes in ensuring optimal air traffic performance. He stated, “Airport operations are pivotal, and constructive exchanges between airport operators and airlines, involving various stakeholders in ground operations, aviation security, and sustainability, contribute to ongoing improvements. This benefits both passengers and air cargo customers.”
During the recent BARIG Full Board meeting in Frankfurt am Main on December 13, 2023, representatives from Düsseldorf Airport and member airlines engaged in discussions about preparations for the upcoming year, with a focus on significant events in 2024.
Dr. Henning Pfisterer, Senior Vice President Aviation and Accountable Manager at Düsseldorf Airport, highlights the airport’s successful operational performance in 2023 and outlines plans for the UEFA European Football Championship scheduled from June 14 to July 14, 2024. Anticipating a surge in flight demand during this major event, Pfisterer highlighted the importance of intensive preparation and collaboration with airline partners, leveraging BARIG as an excellent platform for cooperation.
As the largest airport in North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populous federal state in Germany, Düsseldorf Airport currently hosts flights from 59 airlines. With over 16 million passengers recorded in 2022, it stands as one of the four largest commercial airports in the country.
