ST Engineering's Commercial Aerospace business has signed a five-year maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) contract with new customer Korean Air. The agreement covers the LEAP-1B engines that power the airline's Boeing 737 MAX fleet.
Under the terms of the contract, ST Engineering will deliver quick-turn services, including high-pressure turbine (HPT) work and performance restoration shop visit (PRSV) services. These operations will be carried out at ST Engineering's MRO facility in Singapore.
Tay Eng Guan, Head of Engine Services at ST Engineering, stated, “This agreement underscores Korean Air's confidence in our ability as a trusted partner who can deliver high-quality engine services and support their long-term growth plans. As a Premier MRO provider designated by CFM for the LEAP engines, we are well-positioned to enable airlines to deliver reliable operations.”
ST Engineering holds the distinction of being the first independent MRO provider in Asia to be designated a Premier MRO provider within CFM International's LEAP open MRO ecosystem. Since earning this designation, the company has remained focused on expanding and enhancing its LEAP engine services. These services include high-pressure compressor rotor and HPT rotor balancing, as well as high-speed grinding.
In 2024, ST Engineering achieved testing capabilities for LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines at its Singapore facility. The company is now expanding its offerings to include LEAP PRSV, aiming to better support the growing maintenance demands of airlines operating LEAP engines in the coming years.
