Lufthansa Technik (LHT) has inducted its first LEAP engine at XEOS in Poland, marking a significant milestone in its growing partnership with LOT Polish Airlines. Poland's largest airline recently awarded Lufthansa Technik an initial batch of maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for the latest-generation CFM International LEAP-1B engines powering its Boeing 737 MAX fleet. Appropriately, the first engine serviced under this agreement was inducted at XEOS, a joint venture between Lufthansa Technik and GE Aerospace, located near Wrocław. This event marks the first LEAP engine induction at the XEOS facility. Shortly after, a second LEAP engine covered by the same contract was inducted at Lufthansa Technik's engine shop in Hamburg.
“After a positive experience with Lufthansa Technik's services for our older-generation CFM engines, we are confident to now also entrust our latest-generation CFM engines to their renowned expertise, part of which is even being delivered right here in Poland,” said Maciej Maciejewicz, Head of Powerplant at LOT Polish Airlines.
“We are proud of our extensive LEAP capabilities—and now even more so, as with LOT we have won another internationally renowned airline for services on this latest-generation engine,” said David Sturz, Corporate Sales Executive at Lufthansa Technik. “Having recently gained certification for LEAP engines, XEOS now ideally complements our LEAP engine shop in Hamburg and further supports our successful ramp-up for this important engine type. While it's great to see both facilities getting into action for our valued customer, it's especially great to service the first engine on LOT's home turf.”
The collaboration between Lufthansa Technik and LOT Polish Airlines has expanded significantly over the past year. Following an initial framework agreement signed in February 2024, Lufthansa Technik Malta completed a C-check on a LOT Boeing 787 in April. By May, a contract for the maintenance of LOT's CFM56-7B engines, which power its Boeing 737NG fleet, was signed, with services underway in Hamburg. These efforts are now complemented by LEAP engine services at XEOS and Hamburg, strengthening the partnership and expanding capabilities in supporting LOT's fleet.
