General Atomics AeroTec Systems (GA-ATS) has announced the expansion of its NH90 helicopter maintenance operations at Oberpfaffenhofen Special Airport, strengthening its support for the German Armed Forces. From early 2026, a sixth maintenance dock will be added to its NH90 hangar, boosting capacity in response to growing demand.
The company, a certified DEMAR 145 maintenance organisation, has provided maintenance for the German military's NH90 fleet since 2018. Its services cover both the NH90 TTH (Tactical Transport Helicopter) and NH90 NTH (Naval Transport Helicopter) variants. GA-ATS offers a full suite of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services, including scheduled and unscheduled work, functionality tests, fly-in support and component overhauls.
The addition of the sixth dock highlights GA-ATS's ongoing role as a dependable partner to the Bundeswehr and reflects the company's long-standing experience in military helicopter maintenance. Its legacy began in 1967 with work on the Bell UH-1D helicopters, continuing through to 2021.
“This expansion is a strategic investment in the future and further solidifies our standing as a trusted maintenance provider for military aircraft,” stated Florian Rohe, Managing Director of GA-ATS. “It also underlines our ongoing commitment to the German Armed Forces, both in NH90 maintenance and in supporting the Do228 aircraft we manufacture.”
The expansion will also create new employment opportunities at the Oberpfaffenhofen site. GA-ATS is actively recruiting certified aircraft mechanics, planners, avionics technicians, and certifying staff (CAT B1.3 and CAT B2) to support its growing operations. According to Albert Meisinger, Head of NH90 MRO, “Our NH90 team consistently delivers top-tier work. To support our growth, we are seeking new colleagues to join our dedicated workforce.”
