Industrial action by the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) is expected to cause significant disruptions to Finnair's flight operations at Helsinki Airport on Friday, May 16. The four-hour stoppages, which target multiple shifts throughout the day, are set to affect key ground handling and catering services essential to flight operations.
According to Finnair, the disruptions will lead to the cancellation of approximately 60 flights, impacting around 6,000 passengers. The airline is working to rebook affected travellers on alternative services, with updates available through Finnair's online booking management system and mobile app.
The planned industrial action follows similar measures undertaken earlier in May. Though limited in duration, the staggered nature of the stoppages across different operational areas is expected to create widespread delays and service interruptions throughout the day.
Further disruption may occur on Monday, May 19, as the IAU has announced plans for additional industrial action. The extent of the impact on that day is still being assessed, though disruptions to flight operations remain likely.
