Vietjet, Vietnam’s largest private airline, has placed an order for 20 Airbus A330-900 aircraft, marking a major step in its strategic growth plans over the next decade. The agreement was formalised in Hanoi, with Vietjet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao and Airbus International President Wouter van Wersch signing the deal. The signing was witnessed by French President Emmanuel Macron and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong, during President Macron’s official visit to Vietnam.
This major order supports Vietjet’s ambitions to expand its international network, particularly on high-capacity routes across the Asia-Pacific region and new long-haul routes to Europe. The A330neo aircraft are expected to deliver greater efficiency and fuel savings, enabling the airline to meet growing passenger demand while advancing its sustainability goals.
Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao highlighted the importance of the partnership with Airbus, stating that the modern, fuel-efficient aircraft have played a vital role in the airline’s growth and will continue to underpin its expanding global network. Airbus echoed this sentiment, with EVP Sales Benoît de Saint-Exupéry praising Vietjet’s rapid growth and commitment to accessible air travel, adding that the A330neo will further strengthen its global operations.
The new order doubles Vietjet’s A330neo commitments to 40 aircraft. The airline also holds orders for 96 A320neo-family aircraft and currently operates 115 A320-family aircraft alongside seven A330-300s. Vietjet’s A330s are already used on international routes to Australia, India, and Kazakhstan, offering Business Class and enhanced passenger comfort. The new A330-900s, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, will feature Airbus’ advanced Airspace cabin and support Vietjet’s push towards longer, more comfortable international journeys.
