Textron Aviation (Textron) has announced the availability of Starlink high-speed internet connectivity for the Cessna Citation Sovereign and Sovereign+ aircraft. This development follows the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval of AeroMech's supplemental type certificate (STC), which allows for the installation of Starlink's cutting-edge in-flight Wi-Fi system.
The Starlink system, powered by a network of low earth orbit (LEO) satellites, offers more reliable connectivity than traditional in-flight internet, particularly in remote areas, over oceans, and across regions where standard services often fail. With this capability, passengers and crew can expect consistent high-speed internet access even when flying over less-connected parts of the world.
Textron Aviation's Senior Vice President of Customer Support, Brian Rohloff, noted that this upgrade stems directly from customer demand. “We invest in product upgrades based on customer feedback, and they have been asking for the best in-flight connectivity options available in aviation today,” said Rohloff. He added that the inclusion of Starlink further enhances the company's growing portfolio of connectivity upgrades, reinforcing Textron's commitment to customer satisfaction and technological innovation.
The Starlink system installation includes a Starlink Aviation Kit supplied by AeroMech, comprising an aero terminal (antenna), power supply unit (PSU), two wireless access points (WAPs), and necessary harnessing. The system is designed to be integrated easily, requiring only aircraft power.
Customers can arrange installations at Textron's North American service centres and selected international facilities, enabling Sovereign and Sovereign+ operators to upgrade their aircraft for enhanced passenger experience and operational efficiency.
