Textron Aviation Defense LLC, a subsidiary of Textron Inc., has been awarded a five-year U.S. Government contract to continue delivering Sustaining Engineering and Program Management (SEPM) services for the T-6 trainer fleets operated by the U.S. Air Force, Navy and Army.

Initially awarded in 2021, the contract extension ensures a further five years of systems engineering and programme management support. The scope covers sustaining and systems engineering, alongside programme oversight and support for maintenance, repairs, modifications and structural integrity programmes across the T-6A, T-6B and T-6D aircraft. All work will be carried out in Wichita, Kansas.

Travis Tyler, President and CEO of Textron Aviation Defense, said the follow-on award demonstrates the continued confidence of the U.S. Government’s T-6 Joint Program Office in the company’s capabilities. He added that the focus remains on maintaining aircraft availability and ensuring the fleet is mission-ready to support the training of the next generation of military pilots.

The Beechcraft T-6 Texan II is widely regarded as a leading military training platform. Supported by nearly a century of aviation manufacturing expertise, the wider organisation has delivered more than 255,000 aircraft globally. The Texan II is valued for its relatively low acquisition, operating and sustainment costs, enabling air forces to accelerate pilot training efficiently.

With an installed base that significantly exceeds that of its nearest competitor, the T-6 family has remained the world’s leading integrated training system for over 20 years. Its active production line, backed by a Manufacturing Readiness Level of 10 and a well-established supply chain, reinforces its reliability and long-term sustainability.
